Validation of remote assessment of preschool children's anthropometrics and motor skills

Introduction Remotely delivered treatment and research procedures were rapidly adopted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is unclear if these measures are valid. The purpose of this study was compare validity anthropometry motor skill proficiency measurements collected a remote-setting in-person setting among sample children ages 3–4 years. Methods Child performance measured by trained assessors parents at home with remote supervision via videoconference assessors. following from National Institutes Health Toolbox collected: (height weight), manual dexterity/manipulation (9-hole pegboard), coordination agility (supine timed up go), lower body strength (standing long jump), postural stability (one-leg standing balance). Differences expert parent-based assessed using Bland-Altman plots, paired samples t-tests, Pearson correlations. Results A total n = 14 completed assessments. No significant differences observed between measurement locations for weight skills ( p > .05). Remote height (M 101.1 cm, SD 5.40) significantly greater than 98.2 5.16); < .0001. Discussion valid assessments researchers clinicians utilize young children. assessment guidance offers comparable estimates as assessment, potentially offering solution resource-constricted barriers access care. There an opportunity fine-tune individual-level strategies.
